Sleeping Beauty Awakes

We are always on the look-out for interesting vehicles for renovation at Spellbound Cars. Towards the end of 2012 we heard of an un-restored Ferrari 330 GT MK1 which was possibly being offered for sale by a private collector in Italy. As far as we could ascertain the car had not been used since it was purchased by its current owner in the early 1980s.

We travelled to Italy to meet the owner and were very pleasantly surprised by what we saw. Although covered in a fine layer of dust, the integrity of the car shone through. Closer inspection revealed that all of the original chrome, bright work and trim was in place and although the bodywork carried some ‘scars’ of good use before its lay-up, it was in an exceptional condition. More importantly, the car was intact. A deal was struck, the purchase completed and the Ferrari was shipped back to the UK by Spellbound Cars.

Subsequent research has revealed that the car was originally constructed in 1964 and supplied to its first owner in Switzerland by a Swiss Ferrari distributor in 1965.

The car is now in the process of careful re-commissioning: just the other day we were able to start and run the glorious 4 litre V12 engine for the first time after 30 years of slumber.

We are passionate about the preservation of cars with this level of originality. A great deal of thought and discussion will go in to the final decision about the level of restoration to be carried out.
