Making a comeback at the home of motor racing

Our beautiful Maserati 3500 GT was ready for its first ‘shakedown’ on the 2.4 mile historic Goodwood circuit at a track day organised by Octane Magazine on May 16.  As happened three weeks earlier at Italian Car Day, it was the star of the show, singled out for comment by participants and journalists alike.

Spellbound Cars workshop manager Martin Gadd, managing director Michel Erwich and service and repair technician Mark Nye undertook four six lap sessions in which the car performed gratifyingly well, reaching speeds of up to 120 mph on the straights.   As was intended, the day highlighted a few running faults, particularly with the carburation which are now being attended to back at the workshop in Farnham.

Goodwood Motor Circuit is an extraordinary place. The only classic circuit in the world to remain entirely in its original form, it took six years to restore in readiness for the inaugural Goodwood Revival in 1998. With a bit of luck (and a lot of hard work) the 3500GT will be back at Goodwood for this year’s Revival in September…
